Intro and Methods

Introduction When opening up and maintaining a restaurant over a long period of time, there are numerous factors that the owner needs to take into account. There has been a substantial amount of studies done on this topic, and rightfully so. This is because “over a quarter of restaurants fail within their first year of operation” (Lu, Song, Dock 2014). Owners in turn will do whatever they can to keep their business afloat. Location. Location. Location. How often is this saying used? Well it has been “increasingly recognized as the single most important element in determining its profitability and overall success” (Lu, Song, Dock 2014). An example in Iowa City would be Mcdonalds. McDonalds is labeled by business insider as “ one of the most popular fast-food chains and one of the top franchises in the world ” (Fitzpatrick 2015). However, Mcdonald's is located about a mile away from downtown, and in the outskirts of the University. Which is inadequate to the sales of the compan...

Essay #2

My research project will be on which fast food restaurant in Iowa City is the most popular and why. This is very important to people who want to open up a restaurant in a City to see what factors affect what people think about your food, and will be interesting to a business major such as myself. Also, I am curious to see how McDonalds will do in the survey because it is one of the most popular fast food chains, but it is located very far from campus. Two questions: 1. Does Location play any role in the restaurant you chose? 2. What is your favorite item on the menu? I will find this information by sending out surveys.

IMRaD

There are many differences between the IMRaD papers, and the typical argumentative papers that we have been writing about. The whole layout is completely different between the two papers. In an argumentative there is the introduction with a thesis, the body paragraphs and the conclusion. The IMRaD has a title first. Next comes the abstract, which sums up the entire paper. Then the introduction which is very similar to the argumentative because it says why you are writing the paper. After comes the Methods, which is vastly different than the body paragraphs, in this you explain what you do. Results, what ended up happening. Finally, discussion which is sort of like the conclusion, describing what all your findings mean. Another difference is that argumentative essays argue information. You are "reporting the results of experiments". On the flip side is the IMRaD paper. Here you look at the entire report as a whole. Along with this you are displaying your own data as supposed...

Speech Reflection

I think that I got an average to a little above average score. I had plenty of information, however I am not entirely sure how great of a job I did on the presentation part. The two aspects I think I will need to improve on are feeling a little bit more comfortable up there, and my tone. I felt that I was able to remember and convey all of my thoughts to the audience while still talking very slowly and making eye contact. The only parts I felt did not go very well were in the delivery, as I said before I think the main problems are the two things I said I need to work on. I will just try and read a few articles on how to be more comfortable and maybe try and practice my speech more.
